Shoulder pain?

Are you struggling with your shoulder? Or both?

Shoulders can be a source of discomfort and are often manifested by lack of amplitude and strength. Why is this case? Why does this happen? What are the possible solutions in this regard? We will try to guide you as much as possible.

A shoulder represents the most mobile joint of the whole body. Suspended, it is encapsulated in a very minimal way. It is for this reason that it is subject to significant movement limitations, in addition to being painful.

In some cases, a unilateral shoulder pain may make you think that the other side is working properly; unfortunately, sometimes it is not the case- both can demonstrate dysfunction but a single one may be painful only.

As a reminder, we must understand that musculoskeletal limitations may be caused by two types of dysfunctions: either caused by an accident/trauma or related to a lack of proper function. When the limitation is not related to an accident / trauma, it is the function that is problematic. In other words, how you move your shoulder (or your shoulders) can be the source of your struggles.

In fact, the most commonly observed limitations are significant restrictions of movement within the joint cavity. Since the shoulder is a suspended joint, it will tend to become unstable and promote significant compensatory movements when not properly used.

Without realizing it, you develop ways of using your shoulder that is contrary to its proper functioning.

What are the solutions?

The first result of a significant restriction of movement is the lack of sliding capabilities of adjacent tissues. In fact, the skin will have difficulty sliding and thus will limit global movements. Why is this the case? Your body adapts continuously - when the shoulder is not properly mobilized, the adjacent tissues adapt to create a form of temporary stability, which can become more permanent in the long term, with tissues that do not allow movement.

Thus, compensatory movements will favour instability of the joint and will generate even more tissues restrictions. Obviously, the release and restoration of proper tissues movements will be required before attacking specifically joint range of motion. Also, lifestyle changes will be necessary to restore daily control of your shoulder.

Functions of the shoulder

The shoulder functions with the interaction of structures and tissues that have an impact on the movements of the joint, relative to the scapula, namely flexion, extension, internal rotation, external rotation, abduction and adduction.

Our steps to improve the functions of your shoulder

Inflammation Épaule gauche

Functional Movement AnalysisTM

During the Functional Movement AnalysisTM, we will observe several elements related to the functioning of the shoulder:

(1) We will use a thermographic apparatus to observe the presence of inflammatory processes;

(2) We will observe the dissociation between the shoulder and the scapula, the overall movements of the shoulder, performed in a passive way (using the therapist) and actively (done by the individual);

These movements serve to establish your functional ability to move. If you are limited or feel pain as part of the movements presented, it is not recommended to continue these. They should be done in the complete absence of pain.

Corrective Massage TherapyTM

Our manual therapy approach will aim at accelerating the benefits of inflammatory processes, in order to promote healing, to reduce protective spasms, to restore passive amplitudes of passive movements without pain, as well as to promote control, by the individual, movements related to the functioning of the shoulder.

Thus, we will combine in a suitable and progressive way:

(1) Specific techniques to accelerate the role of inflammation;

(2) Decompression techniques in the superficial tissues around the shoulder to promote joint function;

(3) Techniques to restore the ability of the individual to control the different movements of the shoulder by eliminating protective spasms.

Entraînement Correctif FonctionnelMC

What is the best way to act on your quality of life? By giving you the tools you need to take control of your life! We will allow you to control and understand the movements of your neck.

With the help of different educational tools, you will better understand the role of your shoulder in your daily activities and know what to do every day to maintain control over the joint health of your shoulder.

Thus, we will use educational:

(1) Increase active mobility;

(2) Dissociate the shoulder from the scapula;

(3) Practice daily movements to maintain active mobility amplitudes and preserve your joint functions.
